Meta has introduced new monetization features aimed at empowering Kenyan creators. Eligible Facebook users in the country can now generate income from their video and Reels content. This expansion is a strategic move by Meta to foster a thriving creative ecosystem in Kenya.

The tech giant has unveiled two primary monetization avenues: In-Stream Ads and Facebook Ads on Reels. Through In-Stream Ads, creators can earn revenue by incorporating advertisements into their videos, which can be displayed before, during, or after the content. Additionally, Facebook Ads on Reels allows creators to monetize their Reels by integrating ads within the short-form video format.

Moon Baz, Meta’s Global Partnerships Lead for Africa, Middle East, and Turkey, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting African creators. By providing monetization options, Meta aims to encourage content creation and bolster the Kenyan creative industry.

To qualify for these monetization features, creators must adhere to Facebook’s Partner Monetization and Content Monetization Policies. Age restrictions apply, with creators required to be at least 18 years old. Furthermore, specific eligibility criteria, such as a minimum follower count of 5,000, must be met for In-Stream Ads.

Meta’s initiative is a significant step towards recognizing the value of content creators and providing them with sustainable income opportunities. By expanding monetization options and supporting local languages like Swahili, the company demonstrates its dedication to fostering a diverse and inclusive creator community in Kenya.

In-Stream Ads on Facebook

Meta explained that In-Stream Ads can be integrated into on-demand videos, either pre-recorded or recorded from live streams. These ads can appear in various formats:

  • Pre-roll Ads: Play before the video starts.
  • Mid-roll Ads: Play during the video.
  • Image Ads: Static images displayed beneath the video content.
  • Post-roll Ads: Appear at the end of the video.

These ads provide creators with multiple opportunities to monetize their content, ensuring they are compensated for their creative efforts.

Facebook Ads on Reels

For Facebook Reels, ads are seamlessly integrated into the original Reels content. Creators can earn money based on the performance of their Reels, incentivizing them to produce engaging and entertaining content for their audience.

Eligibility and Compliance

To access these monetization features, creators must adhere to Facebook’s Partner Monetisation Policies and Content Monetisation Policies. Additionally, creators must be at least 18 years old. For In-Stream Ads, there are additional requirements, including a minimum follower count of 5,000.

This initiative by Meta underscores its commitment to empowering creators in Kenya and beyond, providing them with tools to monetize their creativity while contributing to a vibrant global content ecosystem.
