Musician Bahati and his wife, Diana Marua, have made a significant splash with the debut of their new reality show, ‘The Bahati’s Empire,’ on Netflix. The couple, who promoted the series premiere at an event on Thursday, disclosed that the production budget for the show’s first season was an impressive Sh47 million.

Speaking to the media, Bahati, a father of five, shared, “Hii ilikuwa season 1. The cost of production was Sh47 million.” The couple also hinted at an even larger budget for the second season. “So season 2, we are looking at going a notch higher…Maybe a Sh100 million. So yeah…” Bahati added.

When questioned about whether ‘The Bahati’s Empire’ is the most expensive reality show in East Africa, Bahati declined to make direct comparisons, instead encouraging viewers to focus on the quality of the content. “Don’t talk about the expense, talk about the entertainment,” he said.

The show’s popularity has extended beyond Kenya, with international viewers expressing disappointment that it isn’t available in their local Netflix offerings. Addressing this issue in an interview with Betty Kyallo on Friday, Bahati stated, “When you want to go big, you go big. You either go big or go home. They did it for Kenya, so when they put the show on the platform, they locked it within Africa, knowing we have fans across the continent.”

Bahati emphasized the global appeal of the Bahati family, urging fans to demand broader availability. “They didn’t realize that the Bahati family is global,” he added with a laugh. “That’s why I’ve told people to go tag and comment. Let them know that Kenyans are no longer just local.”

The couple’s reality show offers viewers an intimate look into their family life, lifestyle, music empire, and businesses. In the show, Bahati and Diana Marua also address various personal topics. Bahati shared his criteria for choosing a wife, revealing that he wanted someone who was religious and older than him. “Somehow, just to confess, I love my women older,” he said.

The show also marked the first time the couple unveiled the face of their daughter, Malaika, to the world.

With the successful launch of ‘The Bahati’s Empire’ and plans to upscale production for the next season, Bahati and Diana Marua are set to continue captivating audiences with their bold and entertaining reality series.
