Miss Quinn Abenakyo  reign came to an end last night as  24- year Old Miss Oliver Nakakande  emerged the winner of Miss Uganda 2019/2020 after beating 21 other contestants. Nakakande took over the crown from Quinn Abenakyo who was Miss Uganda 2018/19 and also represented Uganda in Miss World where she emerged 2ndrunner up and also crowned Miss World Africa

While Ugandans are still celebrating Quiin Abenakyo’s remarkable success, they will have to contend with the reality that her reign has come to an end.

Uganda has now got a new beauty queen in the names of Oliver Nakakande who was crowned Miss Uganda at a glamorous event on Friday evening at Sheraton Kampala Hotel.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga who graced the event as the chief guest, hailed the organisers of the pageant for instilling confidence and knowledge in the girls.

She urged the contestants to continue with what they have learnt regardless of who emerges the winner.

“I also want to thank Mike Mukula for supporting this pageant to be a success. Thank you all for inviting me to this occasion. I am enjoying myself,” Kadaga said.

Reigning Miss World, Vanessa Ponce De Leon, who was in attendance thanked Brenda Nanyonjo, the Miss Uganda Foundation CEO for instilling the principles of beauty with a purpose in the girls. Ponce promised to return to Uganda where she said she fell in love with matooke (plantain).

Before the elimination rounds, the guests were treated to entertainment by musicians Grenade, Myko Ouma and Joseph Sax.

In the elimination rounds, 12 out of the 22 contestants were dropped leaving 10 contestants to battle for the crown.

As the field thinned out, Elizabeth Bagaya emerged as the first runner up while Mariam Nyamate ended up as the second runner up.

Nakakande was crowned by Quiin Abenakyo and Vanessa Ponce De Leon and received a Toyota Wish.

Revellers were also treated to remarkable scenes when socialite Zari Hassan clashed with the host Anitah Fabiola.
