These multi-hyphenates have been friends for over 15 year, but it sucks that they can’t meet up for a drink or coffee. They have to stay apart to save the planet! This is what everyone is going through right now, shutting off those they love, to save the world.

Priscilla Ray Covers Satisfashion UG Magazine’s March 2020 Issue

Priscilla Ray makes her magazine cover debut, 16 years after her last appearance on Zenji magazine. Then a glamour model, she was a fixture on Kampala’s social scene, runway shows and magazine spreads. She then quietly stepped out of the limelight, got her Master’s degree and became a mother.

Satisfashion UG’s March 2020 issue is here starring Priscilla Ray

Now a businesswoman, she’s enjoying a quiet life out of the spotlight. She talks to us about finding herself and the beauty of being content.

In person, Ray is a delight; she’s bubbly, talkative and insanely funny. She greets me with a big hug, and agrees that we leave Café Javas to have our chat at Riders Lounge, Acacia Place, which was a lot quieter. Dressed in a blue Baum und pferdgarten ruffled striped shirt, and a pair of off-white printed textured Derek Lam 10 Crosby wide-leg pants. Her hair, which she flips incessantly (because who wouldn’t?) is in a beautiful dark brown shade, a perfect match for her skin tone. She’s carrying a brown Chanel purse, which I later find out set her back a staggering $5000.

Zumi Lifestyle and Fashion Media platform has finally shutdown

The investment came from Majlis Investment Management in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and other international angel investors.

Launched in October of last year by William McCarren and Sabrina Dorman, ZUMI was originally intended to be a fashion e-commerce business.

“It wasn’t until after I had quit my job to launch this business and was doing research into potential content partners that I realised the gap in women’s digital media,” McCarren said.

“I was trying to find online women’s magazines to partner with but all I could find was outdated print magazines or online content for women in the West. This was the lightbulb moment, sitting in Java House in Nairobi, when I saw that we could create an online women’s magazine to capture this huge audience of content-starved, online users in Kenya.”

McCarren and Dorman decided to postpone the e-commerce idea until later and focus on digital media, and subsequently had 200,000 millennial women visit the website in its second month. ZUMI grew to a peak of just under one million unique users in July.

“We have also diversified into video, creating an in-house video production team who rack up five million views per month. With this rapid growth, we want to expand into new markets and business lines,” McCarren said.

The investment round will see ZUMI launch in Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania and Uganda in the next year.

Natasha Sinayobye and Stallone Lubwama Are Satisfashion UG’s September 2019 Cover Stars

Welcome to September! Welcome to the month of fashion! We’re celebrating all things fearless this month.

To kick things off, Natasha Sinayobye, an actress, model and fashion influencer  and Stallone Lubwama, a fashion model star on the cover of this special edition. Sinayobye, who is famous for her clean short hair got a major beauty makeover we’ve not seen before, while Lubwama hid his face.

Anna Kirya caught up with her for a dive into her life and can we count the number of ways she is fearless on only one hand? Impossible. Read the full interview here.

The fearlessness doesn’t end here, while preparing for this shoot we made some very fundamental last minute changes we feel were very fearless, but guess what, the risk played out in our favour. See the cover below.

During the shoot, I saw and admired the way Sinayobye put her fearlessness to use. From her ease with the makeup to her assertiveness as the day progressed. I learnt that she is a strong fearless woman who is not afraid of speaking her truth. She won’t simply be accommodating for the sake of it, when her peace of mind is at stake, which is something I could learn a thing or two about – especially when I am a bit of a pushover sometimes.

We should all head into the last lap of this year in style; Fearless Style we mean!

Enjoy this exclusive behind the scenes look at the shoot:
