Ugandan Rapper Big Tril Lands Satisfashion UG’s October 2019 Digital Cover

Satisfashion UG, a Ugandan fashion web-magazine has today released its digital cover for October 2019 starring rapper Big Tril.

Famed for being the fastest Ugandan rapper, Big Tril is credited for being one of the creative forces taking Uganda’s hip hop scene from the back seat.

For the story, the rapper was interviewed by George Wabweyo, a seasoned arts journalist and rapper. He was photographed by Gerald Ochieng of Ochieng photography, an emerging photographer we recently stumbled upon on Instagram.

Styling and wardrobe was managed by Brian Ahumuza, founder of Abryanz Style & Fashion Awards.

In the accompanying interview, the rapper explains why he’s always misunderstood and the future of hip hop in Uganda.

Excerpts

On people thinking he’s so full of himself

Nobody should tell me what to do. If I have aspirations and dreams, don’t tell me how to dream. If I wanna win a Grammy for my country, that is my dream. Anyone who is saying what not…I don’t care. Those are their insecurities. I said what I said and I intend to do what I said. I am a man of my word.

On his style choices

To each their own. I love skinny jeans, I wear skinny jeans. But not everyone can wear skinny jeans. See, people who wear skinny jeans are usually comfortable in their skin.

On the creative direction he took for his ‘Parte after Parte’ music video

Everybody thought I’d go for a normal video. But see, when I released the audio of the song, the DJs played it so much, the video was my only way of giving back to them. It’s basically an exhibit of their work, like on a typical night out in Kampala.

Korede Bello shows appreciation to Kisumu based artist Gabiro Mtu Necessary

Korede Bello appreciates Gabiro Mtu Necessary’s song ‘Kus Kus’

It is definitely a good time for budding artists like Gabiro Mtu Necessary to be singing and churning out hit after hit every now and then because the industry is no longer deceiving.

Coming from Kisumu city, Gabiro has always proven to be one fresh and clean gem among the rest by always going a step ahead to the top in one way or the other as seen recently when he threw a shot at Nigerian and Mavin Records superstar to check out his new song ‘Kus Kus’.

Apparently he got Korede’s attention and the response to his tweet is what made Gabiro grow his YouTube video from 2.2k views to 4.1k views and still counting. In his tweet the self-proclaimed Kisumu president says

Quoted tweethttps://twitter.com/koredebello/status/1170095630271811586

On the song, Gabiro’s charming lyrical prowess is the star of the show, always delivered without a hint of strain. Lyrically, Gabiro mines a personal mood for inspiration, but contrasts the somber subject matter with a light and breezy delivery that will make you forget your worries in an instant — as long as you don’t listen too closely to the lyrics. Equally, the Crizo Mzeyah visuals emphasise the simplicity, mixing in footage of random dancers with a hood-looking Gabiro and some imagery to maintain those contrasting themes.

Fronted by a captivating whistle melody and pulsating dancehal beat, “Kus Kus” puts forth a dominating sound from Gabiro. Full of charismatic verses and a fierce, brassy dance break that leads into the chanting choral refrain of “rata tat tudum,” he spends the track confidently expressing feelings of joy and rejoicing.

For years Gabiro has proven to us the power of social media collaboration and good will as seen many at times when he used social media to win a cause.

Rapper Gabiro Debut Cinematic Video for New ‘Kus Kus’ Single

Bit after bit and beat after beat, the self-proclaimed Kisumu President is slowly finding his place not only in the Kenyan music industry but also worldwide.

2019 has been a year of work and more work for Gabiro Mtu Necessary as from January when he released his collaborative tune ‘Nitembezee’ in which he featured talented super star Kidis the Jembe at a time when Kenyan artists were championing for more play of their sound on local media giving the song enough spacve to get airplay and features in various media. It is so far his most viewed music video as per YouTube statistics on his channel this year.

As ever, Gabiro’s charming lyrical prowess is the star of the show, always delivered without a hint of strain.

Full of charismatic verses and a fierce, brassy dance break that leads into the chanting choral refrain of “rata tat tudum,” he spends the track confidently expressing feelings of joy and rejoicing.
Born and raised in Kisumu Gabiro has not only had the chance to work with Kidis but also big names like Wyre, Ketchup and even Uganda’s Nutty Neithan;he  has released 4 singles this year, barely pausing for breath in between drops. And it’s only August. Now he’s back with yet another gem and he’s tapped up music maestro and hit-maker Brian Robin of One Vibe Africa for production.

Accompanying the track, which officially dropped earlier today, is this video directed by Crizo Mzeyah. Taking a much simpler turn, “Kus Kus” brings in a feel good mood. As he explains, the song was inspired by Tamale word Kus, and sees Gabiro draw rhymes using the word which is a form of expressing sweetness.
