L’oreal lash serum solution
If you were hoping L’Oreal’s Lash Serum Solution was an inexpensive, convenient equivalent to proven lash growth products like Latisse, we’re here to burst your bubble. Although the brush-on formula makes lashes feel softer and is easy to apply, it contains nothing proven to reduce eyelash loss or foster eyelash growth.
To be fair, L’Oreal doesn’t make overt lash-growth claims for this serum, but they do state users will see “denser, thicker-looking lashes in just four weeks.” To us, that implies growth but theoretically keeping lashes from breaking will result in a thicker appearance over several weeks.
You’re directed to apply along your lash line and to lashes themselves twice daily; however, doing so is likely to be problematic thanks to the high amount of drying denatured alcohol this contains. Because you apply it directly to your lash line, there is a significant risk of irritating the skin on your eyelids not to mention there’s a better-than-average chance some of it will get into your eyes, too. Contrary to L’Oreal’s claims, this is not ideal this for those with sensitive eyes or contact lenses.
With so much alcohol (it’s the second ingredient), what makes lashes feel soft? Well, after the alcohol dries, the formula’s blend of glycerin, cellulose, and glycol forms a hydrating film that softens lashes and, to a minor degree, helps reduce shedding, such as when you’re removing eye makeup. It’s a bit like how hair conditioner makes your tresses easier to manage, but doesn’t stop hair loss or make hair grow longer.
Lashes get a bit more “conditioning” with supporting ingredients like amino acids (arginine, glutamic acid, serine) and madecassoside, but none of this means the amount of alcohol is worry-free; again, we’re talking about a product applied directly to your skin, and very close to your eyes.
Note: This product was formerly known as Lash Boosting Serum.
