Intellectual Scum is a 2015 Kenyan short film directed by Njue Kevin. Produced by Rocque Pictures, the film is an adaptation of the controversial article ‘You Lazy (Intellectual) African Scum!’  by Field Ruwe, a USA based Zambian media practitioner.

Plot
On board a commercial airplane, an African intellectual (Field Ruwe), sits next to a white man (Walter). In their conversation, which is utterly brutal, honest and to some racist, Walter blames the ‘Intellectuals’ for the deplorable state Africa was in.

The careers of The Band BeCa’s members kick started soon after they completed high school in 2015. Each of them asked their parents to pay for a vocal training course at Penya Africa’s Sauti Academy – a music school and talent incubation Centre based in Nairobi. By 2016, the duo had released their first single Toka, followed by Brathe in December 2016. They would later release three versions of Brathe and by February 2017, dropped a collaboration titled Tonight.

Coke Studio Africa Awarded YouTube’s Silver Creator Award

Coke Studio Africa was awarded YouTube’s silver creator award as African biggest music platform.

In its fifth year, Africa’s biggest music platform – Coke Studio Africa has achieved a key milestone online.
The Coke Studio YouTube channel has been awarded the YouTube Silver Creator Award in recognition for having more than 100,000 subscribers on the channel.

In a message from Susan Wojcicki, CEO YouTube, stated, “You’ve just done something that very few YouTube creators accomplish. You achieved a milestone with hard work, perseverance and probably a healthy sense of humour too,” adding, “What you’ve accomplish can’t be taken away from you. And we’d like to recognize you and all your hard work with this award, a small token of our esteem and respect.”

The role of Coke Studio Africa’s YouTube channel has been to extend TV reach of the show by providing audiences with music content on demand.
As such, the channel actively managed to distribute music content across Africa and beyond, with over 90 million views from South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana and as far as USA, United Kingdom, UAE, amount to 179,527,578 minutes of watch time.

Stella Nyambura Mwangi (born 1 September 1986),also known by the stage name STL, is a Kenyan-Norwegiansinger,songwriter and rapper. Mwangi writes a lot of her music about the situation in her home country Kenya, and about discrimination both Stella and her family had to go through after moving to Norway in 1991.Her work has been used in films such as American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile and Save the Last Dance 2, and also in TV-series such as CSI: NY and Scrubs. She has won several awards including; the Kisima Awards, Clops Awards and Jeermaan Awards, she is one of the most popular singers in Norway after winning the Melodi Grand Prix 2011.

Mwangi represented Norway at The Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf, Germany, one year after her country hosted the event, and was eliminated in the first semi-final. Mwangi has had hits in Kenya, Senegal, and Gambia. Stella Mwangi Early and personal life Stella was born in Murang’a in Central Province of Kenya in 1986 and spent her first 5 years there before her family moved to Eidsvoll in Norway in 1991. She started to practice playing music when she was eight years old.

She also plays the piano. Her father made sure she and her siblings learned Gikuyu language and Swahili even far away from home. He used cultural music and poetry to teach them the languages and this inspired Stella’s music and her connection to the Kenyan culture. Mwangi’s father was killed in a hit-and-run accident in February 2012. Eurovision Song Contest 2011 In 2011, Mwangi participated in the Norwegian national selection Melodi Grand Prix 2011 to represent Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011, which was held in Düsseldorf, Germany. On 12 February 2011, Mwangi emerged as the winner.

On 10 May, she represented Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Haba Haba”but failed to qualify for the Eurovision final, despite being one of the big favourites of the contest.
