L’oreal Unlimited Mascara Washable

We’ve seen a lot of mascaras come across our desks at Beautypedia, including plenty from L’Oreal, but Unlimited Mascara Washable stands out among them for its ability to live up to every single one of its claims. This fragrance-free mascara just might make you forget about your current favorite-it’s that good!

The most noticeable aspect of this mascara is its packaging: instead of a slim tube, it’s wider at the bottom, with a hinge at the point where you twist the wand out. You can either twist the wand out straight or bend it at a 90-degree angle and then pull it out of the tube. You can bend the wand after it’s out of the tube, though that requires touching the brush and potentially getting mascara on your hands (not to mention contaminating the product inside).

This clever packaging allows for versatile application: you can apply in a straightforward style as usual or use the shortened handle length (when it’s bent) of the brush itself to get to the corners of the eyes. We found it remarkably effective, and were able to coat every lash, even the tiny ones near the tear ducts.

But what really shines here is the marriage of formula, wiper, and brush. It adds significant length and volume to lashes, and a lot of curl, to the point where it looks like you’ve used an eyelash curler. The effect is almost that of wearing a pair of false eyelashes. Lots of mascaras make that claim, but this one actually delivers!

Unlimited Mascara didn’t clump, even after multiple coats, didn’t flake or smudge, and was easy to remove with just cleanser and water. Are you noticing the steps being saved here? You can potentially ditch your lash curler and separate makeup remover.

L’Oreal claims this can last up to 24 hours, and while it did perform remarkably for a full work day, we don’t recommend wearing any makeup that long, as it’s not good for your skin, and, in this case, your eyes.

That aside, this is an exemplary mascara, and one we wholeheartedly recommend.

Pros:

  • Bendable brush allows for precision application to every lash.
  • Mascara adds significant length, volume, and curl to lashes.
  • Doesn’t clump, flake, or smudge.
  • Easy to remove.
  • Fragrance free.

Cons:

  • None.

L’oreal Unlimited Mascara Waterproof

L’Oreal’s Unlimited Mascara Waterproof is a great mascara that performs as claimed… though it’s not quite as impressive as its washable counterpart.

The first thing you’ll notice about this fragrance-free mascara is its packaging: instead of a slim tube, it’s wider at the bottom, with a hinge at the point where you twist the wand out. You can either twist the wand out straight or bend it at a 90-degree angle and then pull it out of the tube. You can also bend the wand after it’s out of the tube, though that requires touching the brush and potentially getting mascara on your hands.

What this does is allow for straightforward application, or a shortened handle length (when it’s bent) that allows for the brush to reach the corners of the eyes. We found it remarkably effective and were able to coat even the tiniest lash.

The formula here works well to add length, volume, and curl to lashes, resulting in an attractive, slightly-more-enhanced-than-natural look. It doesn’t clump, flake, or smudge, and is waterproof as claimed. You will need a longwearing makeup remover to ensure removal of every trace of it at the end of the day.

All told, it’s a great mascara with great packaging, though we must admit that it doesn’t have quite the blockbuster, false lashes effect as its washable sister. That’s not a bad thing, just something to keep in mind in case you were expecting the same results from both products.

*Note: While this product contains a moderate amount of denatured alcohol, it’s not an issue since lashes are dead and therefore not susceptible to damage, and it doesn’t cause any lash stiffness or dryness.

Pros:

  • Bendable brush allows for precision application to every lash.
  • Mascara adds moderate length, volume, and curl to lashes.
  • Doesn’t clump, flake, or smudge.
  • Waterproof as claimed.
  • Fragrance free.

Cons:

  • Not as impressive as its washable counterpart.

L’oreal True Match Super Blendable Multi-Use Concealer

L’Oreal adds to its concealer lineup with True Match Super Blendable Multi-Use Concealer, a worthy—though not perfect—option for those with oily to combination skin.

The packaging for this fragrance-free concealer is a slim plastic tube with a click-pen dispenser, and a small round sponge at the end.

The sponge allows you to gently dot concealer where needed (especially under eyes) but isn’t the best for blending (it isn’t firm enough to work the product into skin), so it’s best to use your fingers or another sponge instead.

That aside, this provides buildable medium to full coverage of dark circles, redness, and other imperfections. By the way, when it comes to claims that this is the brand’s first “multi-editing concealer,” that’s marketing hype. Most good concealers can serve double or even triple duty, it’s certainly nothing new! L’Oreal’s original True Match Concealer is brilliant for this!

Another note: L’Oreal claims this contains a “serum” of glycerin and the peptide Haloxyl, and while both those ingredients are present here, they’re in nowhere close to a concentration to qualify as a serum-like skin care product. L’Oreal also says this can treat blemishes, but the brand is referring to concealing acne marks and brown spots, not actually treating acne itself, so keep that in mind.

True Match Super Blendable Multi-Use Concealer sets to a natural-looking matte finish that’s best for those with oily to combination skin; those with any dryness will find this emphasizes any areas of dryness. As far as wear time, this doesn’t budge, even during a full day of wear. It begins to crease a little toward the end of its wear time, though this can be blended out relatively easily.

Overall, even though there are a couple of issues with this concealer, it’s one of L’Oreal’s better options.

Pros:

  • Buildable medium to full coverage.
  • Sets to a natural-looking matte finish.
  • Doesn’t fade during its wear time.
  • Fragrance free.

Cons:

  • Applicator is fine for applying, but not good for blending.
  • Creases toward the end of its wear time.

L’oreal Visible Lift Radiance Booster

L’Oreal has numerous primers available, and Visible Lift Radiance Booster is among its better selections. Well, except for some problematic ingredients that simply can’t be ignored.

Visible Lift Radiance Booster comes in a squeeze tube with a twist-off cap. The primer itself is a lightweight, pink-colored lotion that feels hydrating and smoothing as you apply it. Though the lotion itself is very pink initially, it blends into skin to provide a subtle pink pearl effect. The pearlescence is attractive and gives the impression of dewy skin (and because of this, is best for those with normal to dry skin).

This primer provides a smooth canvas for makeup, and doesn’t settle into fine lines or pores as the day wears on. It also extends the wear time of foundation by about an hour or so; not bad, but better primers can go longer.

Ingredient-wise, Visible Lift Radiance Booster offers a lot of pluses, with skin-replenishing and skin-restoring ingredients, as well as antioxidants.

The issue is that, as with most L’Oreal products, this primer contains fragrance and additional fragrance ingredients that can irritate skin. Over time, and especially with daily use, these ingredients can weaken skin and even make it drier, which is counter to a product intended to hydrate. This is otherwise an excellent primer.

Pros:

  • Lightweight lotion feels smoothing and hydrating.
  • Provides an attractive dewy pearl to skin.
  • Helps with makeup application.
  • Contains skin-replenishing and skin-restoring ingredients, and antioxidants.

Cons:

  • Contains fragrance and fragrance ingredients which can irritate skin.

They are even more fun to do if you have a habit of twirling, curling, or coiling your hair with your fingers. Here’s a guide to creating those perfect curls using an easy method.

But first, let’s talk about what fingers coils actually are.

What Are Finger Coils?

Finger coils are the curls that are done using your fingers. This style is obtained by dividing your hair into multiple sections and twirling them around your fingers to create coils. If done perfectly, the coils can last up to two to three weeks.

  • It’s a simple and effective styling technique that does not harm your tresses.

What Is Eyebrow Microblading? or 3D eyebrow embroidery

Back in the 90s, pencil-thin, skinny brows were apparently a thing. That was a dark time, considering how your brows make a world of difference in framing your face and accentuating your features. It’s all about thicker and fuller brows now! Microblading is not just the hottest beauty trend currently but also a heaven-sent solution for us victims of over-plucked, thin eyebrows. If you are looking to give your brows a long-term fix, here’s everything you need to know about this semi-permanent eyebrow treatment.

What Is Eyebrow Microblading?

Microblading is a technique that involves filling in your eyebrows with semi-permanent tattoo ink to look like brow hairs. Similar to getting a tattoo, this treatment uses tiny needles that make up a small blade to deposit the pigment under your skin. You can save a ton of time every morning as brows take a solid few minutes in one’s daily makeup routine.

If you haven’t heard all the buzz surrounding microblading, you are bound to have a whole lot of questions. We’ve got you covered because it’s super important to make an informed decision when it comes to anything even remotely permanent.

How Is Microblading Done?

Before your aesthetician starts with the microblading procedure, they will draw and fill in your eyebrows to determine your desired look. Once this is done, they will use a specially designed tool that bleeds color pigment into the small scratches of your epidermis. This creates fine lines that mimic strokes of hair.

Remember, the treatment requires time and patience. You might have to go in for a few sittings to achieve natural and realistic looking brows. The number of sessions wholly depends on the state of your natural eyebrows.

Rihanna Launches her Lingerie Brand Savage x Fenty at New York Fashion Week

Makeup is big business, lingerie is big business, and Rihanna is a force of nature rocking both worlds. That much was clear on Wednesday night, when the singer and entrepreneur staged a show for her lingerie line, Savage x Fenty, at New York Fashion Week.

It was a lush, surreally Edenic performance piece, in which dancers and models prowled, whirled, and ran, laughing, across a grassy set strewn with fountains, plants growing under fluorescent lights, and geodesic domes. All 17 minutes, which you can watch on YouTube, are mesmerizing.

“Runway shows are an odd tradition. They cost a ton of money, but their appeal is fairly limited to fashion wonks. Much of the clothing doesn’t even go into production. It sometimes seems like a fashion show evaporates the second it’s done.”

But this Savage x Fenty presentation is worth paying attention to because Rihanna has emerged as a leader in the world of consumer products, and has made diversity part of her brand’s DNA, rather than deploying it as a one-off marketing tactic. Her Fenty Beauty collection became a smash hit in large part because it launched with 40 shades of foundation — something that should be standard, but isn’t, as many makeup brands ignore women of color when formulating products. Just a few months later, a slew of major makeup brands had followed her lead.

And with this particular fashion show, Rihanna accomplished a few things. She put inclusivity front and center, by hiring a group of performers and models that was diverse in terms of race and, notably, size. And she offered an alternative to the cheery, homogenous vision of female sexuality put forth by the best-known lingerie brand in America, Victoria’s Secret.

Savage x Fenty pushes fashion in a more inclusive direction

For too many years, fashion shows looked like this: A stream of very thin, very young, very white women solemnly marching in a line. Designers and casting directors have been slow to increase diversity on the runway — despite many calls to do so — but recent years have shown progress. Yet keeping in mind fashion’s spotty track record on diversity historically, not just in fashion shows but on magazine covers, some have wondered how sincere the industry really is, particularly when it comes to race.

Representation of different body shapes is a particularly weak point for brands that show at fashion week. For the fall 2017 season, plus-size models accounted for only 0.43 percent of castings, according to a Fashion Spot tally. Even when brands do put plus-size models on the runway, they don’t always manufacture clothing in sizes that those models could buy.

Interesting Facts And Myths about Makeup

Internet, television and friend are all good sources of makeup tips. But honestly, how do you even know if that tip is worth trying? The Majority of the tips we hear about turn out to be pure myths! So, to help you weed out the myths from the really helpful tips, we have compiled this list of the top 10 makeup misconceptions that every one of us have heard a million times!

10 Interesting Makeup Facts And Myths

Let’s bust some myths and facts about makeup, right here!

Myth 1: Primers And Moisturizers Work The Same Way!

Fact:

Completely different in formula from moisturizers, Primers help in the easy application of the foundation by creating a smooth base and also makes it last longer. A primer fills fine lines, minimizes the pore size and prevents oiliness. Unlike the moisturizer, which just hydrates the skin and controls dryness, a primer should be applied after moisturizing the skin and before applying the foundation.

Myth 2: Red Lipstick Cannot Be Carried Well By Everyone!

Fact:

A self assumed myth by many teenagers and beginners in makeup, this myth is absolutely not true! Anyone can absolutely rock a red lipstick and look stunning. The only tip you should remember is to pick the right red depending on your skin tone. Red lipsticks are available in different undertones – blue undertone reds are universally flattering. So, you can try different red shades and pick the one, which suits you the best.

Myth 3: Choose Your Foundation By Matching It To Your Forehead, Neck, Cheek Or Hand!

Fact:

Finding the perfect foundation is the toughest task in makeup. The color of the skin on the forehead, neck, cheek and hands differ completely from the face. Stand in front of a mirror and place your hand near your face and you will notice that your hand is darker than the skin tone of your face. It is a biggest makeup misconception to match your foundation with these areas of your skin. Stress, sun exposure, weather conditions can change the skin color on your face than the rest of the body. So, it is best to always swatch your foundation on the jaw line of your face to get the perfect foundation shade and it is also good to try it in natural light.

Myth 4: Lip Plumper Can Increase The Size Of Your Lips!

Fact:

If you have thinner lips, you might have heard several people recommending lip plumpers for you. It contains hot pepper, cinnamon, menthol and caffeine, which irritate your lips to result in a swollen effect. It is a misconception that it is a treatment and the effect will last for a longer period of time. The fact is that it is not a permanent lip plumping treatment. The only solution for thinner lips to get permanent results is to get lip augmentation done with hyaluronic acid fillers.

Myth 5: Pump Your Mascara Wand In And Out To Get Rid Of Clumps!

Fact:

Mascara is one makeup product, which gets easily deteriorated with usage. Pumping the mascara wand in and out will only result in pumping air into the mascara tube, resulting in the formula drying faster than the expiry date and the air might also cause bacterial accumulation. The best way to easily get rid of mascara clumps is to rotate the mascara wand in the tube and then wipe it with a tissue before applying it to your eyelashes.
