L’oreal True Match Super Blendable Multi-Use Concealer

L’Oreal adds to its concealer lineup with True Match Super Blendable Multi-Use Concealer, a worthy—though not perfect—option for those with oily to combination skin.

The packaging for this fragrance-free concealer is a slim plastic tube with a click-pen dispenser, and a small round sponge at the end.

The sponge allows you to gently dot concealer where needed (especially under eyes) but isn’t the best for blending (it isn’t firm enough to work the product into skin), so it’s best to use your fingers or another sponge instead.

That aside, this provides buildable medium to full coverage of dark circles, redness, and other imperfections. By the way, when it comes to claims that this is the brand’s first “multi-editing concealer,” that’s marketing hype. Most good concealers can serve double or even triple duty, it’s certainly nothing new! L’Oreal’s original True Match Concealer is brilliant for this!

Another note: L’Oreal claims this contains a “serum” of glycerin and the peptide Haloxyl, and while both those ingredients are present here, they’re in nowhere close to a concentration to qualify as a serum-like skin care product. L’Oreal also says this can treat blemishes, but the brand is referring to concealing acne marks and brown spots, not actually treating acne itself, so keep that in mind.

True Match Super Blendable Multi-Use Concealer sets to a natural-looking matte finish that’s best for those with oily to combination skin; those with any dryness will find this emphasizes any areas of dryness. As far as wear time, this doesn’t budge, even during a full day of wear. It begins to crease a little toward the end of its wear time, though this can be blended out relatively easily.

Overall, even though there are a couple of issues with this concealer, it’s one of L’Oreal’s better options.

Pros:

  • Buildable medium to full coverage.
  • Sets to a natural-looking matte finish.
  • Doesn’t fade during its wear time.
  • Fragrance free.

Cons:

  • Applicator is fine for applying, but not good for blending.
  • Creases toward the end of its wear time.

L’oreal Visible Lift Radiance Booster

L’Oreal has numerous primers available, and Visible Lift Radiance Booster is among its better selections. Well, except for some problematic ingredients that simply can’t be ignored.

Visible Lift Radiance Booster comes in a squeeze tube with a twist-off cap. The primer itself is a lightweight, pink-colored lotion that feels hydrating and smoothing as you apply it. Though the lotion itself is very pink initially, it blends into skin to provide a subtle pink pearl effect. The pearlescence is attractive and gives the impression of dewy skin (and because of this, is best for those with normal to dry skin).

This primer provides a smooth canvas for makeup, and doesn’t settle into fine lines or pores as the day wears on. It also extends the wear time of foundation by about an hour or so; not bad, but better primers can go longer.

Ingredient-wise, Visible Lift Radiance Booster offers a lot of pluses, with skin-replenishing and skin-restoring ingredients, as well as antioxidants.

The issue is that, as with most L’Oreal products, this primer contains fragrance and additional fragrance ingredients that can irritate skin. Over time, and especially with daily use, these ingredients can weaken skin and even make it drier, which is counter to a product intended to hydrate. This is otherwise an excellent primer.

Pros:

  • Lightweight lotion feels smoothing and hydrating.
  • Provides an attractive dewy pearl to skin.
  • Helps with makeup application.
  • Contains skin-replenishing and skin-restoring ingredients, and antioxidants.

Cons:

  • Contains fragrance and fragrance ingredients which can irritate skin.

Bu.Ke Beauty Products

BU.KE’ is an artisan hair & skincare brand that was founded in January 2017 by Lucy Kingóri, an entrepreneur, and is a play on 2 things. It means ‘Buy Kenyan’ and was also borrowed from our founders’sons’name, the reason she decided to come up with the range of products in the first place.

Her son was born with Eczema, a skin condition that caused serious skin irritation to the point of bleeding. She embarked on a mission to find a way to manage her sons ailing condition and what she found was eye-opening.

Lucy Kingori Tsalwa founded Bu.Ke beauty products and also the CEO a key formulator for Bu.Ke, and besides her son, this name also has import for her country of birth. “The name also means ‘Buy Kenyan’ for me, hence the spacing in the middle of the logo. I am all about promoting Kenyan made products.”

Findings

Almost NONE of the creams/concoctions available in the market to help manage the symptoms of the condition were truly STEROID-FREE. It had been 4 months of trying and experimenting on the ailing boy. One day however, Lucy came across Shea butter from South Sudan, a natural cream that has helped manage her son’s condition to date.

Further research was done on the butter, and that was the beginning of what was to become a fantastic range of natural hair & skin care products that the entire family could enjoy.

Research, Formulation & Certification

Upon further research and once our founder understood the value of incorporating natural ingredients into hair & skin products, she embarked on releasing a line that included, body butter, shampoo bars, hair oils and clay masks.

The said products were taken through the testing and certification process by the Kenya Industrial Research and Development Industry as well as the Kenya Bureau of Standards after which they made their debut into the market.

It has been 2 years of great products in the market and so far the BU.KE range is retailing in Kenya, Tanzania & Ethiopia.

The Story of Saru Organics

The Story of Saru Love

Saru Organics is home to the finest quality in luxury organic beauty products to customers around the world. Founded by visionary Mkamboi Mwakale while attending her MBA studies at USIU, Nairobi, Saru Organics has grown to become synonymous with premium quality, earth-friendly botanical ingredients and the ultimate in delivering stunning hair styling results. Each of our product has been deliberately crafted to let you experience awesome love with your natural crown.

Saru Organcis  Founder?

A Kenyan native, Mkamboi Mwakale begun this journey accidentally when her 4-year-old daughter kept on being sickly and had to use antibiotics that turned out to be a frustrating cycle of events. She came across Moringa powder after a Nigerian friend urged her to try it on her daughter, something that was a turning point in her life.

The Moringa powder turned out to be an excellent solution to her health concerns and she was curious to find out more about her new-found discovery. However, a visit to her upcountry home in Taita Hills made Mkamboi realize something else altogether; the farmers from Taita had grown the Moringa Oleifera tree in plenty but they were yet to experience the economic benefit from the tree.

It was this realization that made Mkamboi get into more researching about the entire tree with an aim to create a solution to the Moringa farmers from her home. Coincidentally she had a unit that required her to come up with a social enterprise project as part of her MBA course work requirements and things just fell neatly into place as she used the opportunity to identify a solution. Her attention was particularly caught with the content and properties of Moringa seed that produced such a high-profile oil.

It was at this realization that she explored the idea of using Moringa oil to solve some of the pin points ethnic hair experienced and with her dedication to a healthy life growing in her personal life, she began to realize the perils posed by inhaling and handling harsh chemicals. She then sought and committed to create value addition to Moringa Oil by creating a toxin-free hair products, and went ahead to incorporate only organic ingredients in her formulations.

She also began extensive research and testing of essential oils, plant extracts and other botanical ingredients to produce her first organic haircare product the Revitalizing Clay Cleansing Shampoo that has been a pioneer in the market and a darling to her customers who love the beautiful experience of soft, conditioned moisturized hair they get after a hair wash.

Her pioneering product is her very first innovative solution that applied design thinking while creating the product. She wanted a sulfate free shampoo but one that worked for ethnic hair that easily gets knots and tangles and can be a mess. The clay shampoo is also great enough for kids leaving kids hair cleansed and soft to manage.

Mkamboi is dedicated to creating professional quality performance products crafted with care and respect for the mother nature. She dreams to create a blossoming full line of incomparable hair, skin, and body products for the entire family.

Liku by Squeezie

The need to make her own skincare products occurred when all the products on the market were hurting her husband, who has very sensitive, dry skin. After the birth of her son, Liz Akuku Founder and Creator of liku knew it was time to put my passion for natural ingredients to test and create a product for her family that would give their skin the nourishment it needed.

Elizabeth Mugo Akuku Founder and Creator at Liku by Squeezie

A formula that would add balance or natural moisture back to her family, to have a balance, healthy glowing kin.

Liz Akuku made it a point to ensure that every ingredient used would be easy to read on the package. That is why she uses only organic and natural ingredients such as cocoa butter, shea butter, avocado oil, mango butter, coconut oil and essential oils.

The high quality of oils and butters used in Liku products prevents the need of fillers and preservatives.

“I believe in not putting anything on my body that I wouldn’t put in my mouth. Feed my skin with vitamins and nutrients to promote a healthy status and balance inside and out” said Liz

4 Benefits of Organic Skin-Care and Why Natural is Better

Organic products have recently become a trend in Kenya with many brands rushing
to adapt to the growing demand. Before finding out why, let’s define the term
‘organic’.

Organic products are made of 95 percent or more of plant ingredients that are grown without pesticides, bioengineered genes, or petroleum-based fertilizers, which could be toxic to the environment. Knowing this, it may already be obvious as to why so many people have made the switch.

Skin care natural products available here at Mama earth products

1. Natural products don’t damage your skin
Non-organic skin care products tend to contain synthetic, man-made chemicals such as sodium laurel, mineral oils, laureth sulphate, and toxins that could be residues of pesticides. Some of the ingredients like mineral oil, petroleum and parabens can cause skin irritation, hormone imbalance, organ toxicity, and even cancer.

These chemicals may damage and weaken your skin as your body tries to cope with these foreign substances. Because your skin is alive and absorbs whatever you put on it, it makes sense to invest in chemical-free, non-toxic ingredients.

2. Everything is naturally-scented
Do you remember the last time you smelled a ripe orange or a freshly-bloomed rose? It felt like a little piece of heaven, right? Nothing is as fresh as natural ingredients. Natural products smell amazing and some like lavender and jasmine, even have a calming effect.

3. Your skin will be softer
Natural ingredients such as coconut oil, honey, aloe Vera, and shea butter are known to soothe, nourish, and moisturize skin. This is in comparison to drugstore brands that add drying agents to moisturizers and conditioners in order to preserve them longer. What this means is that your odds of finding moisturizing products are higher when they come straight from nature.

4. Natural products are packed with active ingredients
Most organic products contain anti-oxidants and up to 95 per cent of an organic skin care product’s contents are active ingredients. This is important because anti- oxidants are the epitome of skin-care as they are majorly responsible in preventing wrinkles and aging.

5. Organic products are earth-friendly
Organic products don’t leave a harmful footprint on the planet, particularly on the soil, water and air because they don’t use pesticides or additives.
With all this in mind, natural products are definitely the better alternative. You can find a wide variety of Kenyan-made, locally sourced ones on a few online shops including Mama Earth Products .

Gucci Beauty Network Lipstick Collections

Ever since Gucci launched a dedicated Instagram feed for beauty last fall, the industry has been anxiously anticipating Creative Director Alessandro Michele’s reimagined vision for the Italian house’s cosmetics range.

After months focusing on fragrance and a fun campaign to go with it Gucci has turned its attention to makeup with a 58-piece lipstick collection featuring three different formulations.

On Sunday, Gucci released its latest beauty campaign, photographed by Martin Parr. Described in a press release as “a manifesto of beauty written by the house’s creative director,” the images feature Dani Miller, the lead singer of punk band Surfbort, as well as models Mae Lapres, Achok Majak and Ellia Sophia Coggins.

The ’80s-inspired campaign is an homage to Michele’s off-kilter sensibilities and penchant for quirk; it’s meant to communicate that “makeup should not mask, but rather exalt, flaws and make them part of the language of beauty,” per press materials.

There is also an accompanying campaign film, shot by Chris Simmonds, which draws on the same vintage aesthetic and encourages the audience to be “bold, bright and beautiful,” via a voiceover.

The campaign, with its throwback graphics and gritty rawness, is certainly bold. It’s meant to “convey a clear message that authentic beauty lies in imperfection,” and it does so in part by showing close-ups of models and mouths that look different less polished, less perfect, less bleached, far more realistic than most of what the beauty industry visually sells consumers.

While some Instagram commenters shared their shock (and in some cases, disdain) for seeing such images from a beauty brand, others, like anonymous watchdog collective @EsteeLaundry, applauded Gucci for celebrating “dental diversity” in its campaign.

The Gucci lipstick collection is available as of Monday exclusively at the Saks Fifth Avenue’s New York Flagship and will launch nationwide on May 29 on Saks.com.
