Deepa Dosaja Background
Deepa Dosaja was born in Nairobi, Kenya. In 1977 her family relocated to Montreal, Canada, where she was to spend her childhood. It is whilst growing up in Montreal that Deepa realised her creative instincts.

On completing high school Deepa enrolled into La Salle College, Montreal from where she received a Diploma in Fashion Design. During this period Deepa also worked at a small exclusive boutique Filly and Colt (www.fillyandcolt.com/). This opportunity proved invaluable to her for the knowledge gained in various aspects of fashion.

In the early 1990’s Deepa relocated back to Kenya with an eye to launching her Fashion career. At the time the Fashion scene in Kenya was slowly ebbing into a reality. Her first assignment was Merchandising Manager or Hardcore Clothing Company a highly successful manufacturer and retailer.
Deepa ventured into her own business in 1991 and primarily engaged in Haute Couture for a client base that was growing in numbers. The year 2000 saw the creation of her own distinct label and flagship company Vabene Couture. The label was elemental in bringing a stylish upscale facet to the then burgeoning Kenyan fashion scene, changing the perception of what Kenyan fashion really means among style conscious consumers.

Odaomo “Luxury Design For Global Citizen “

“Luxury Design for Global Citizens”

Odaomo was conceived by Kenyan native, designer and CEO Dr. Sophia Aomo Omoro, the sixth of eight children born to a seamstress mother and postal worker father. The brand derives from a childhood interest in sketching designs to express her individuality among similarly clad sisters and an innate desire to support her community.

At 16, Sophia Omoro left Kenya and traveled to Canada to continue her education that inevitably led to Tulane University for her MD and PhD. In 2014, then medical colleague and now odAOMO business partner, Amy Trainor, supported Dr. Omoro’s creative-outlet-turned-design-brand and together debuted the line in a local fashion show followed by a successful trunk show in New Orleans, LA. The overwhelmingly positive response led to the label’s flagship store in August of that year on Chartres Street in the historic French Quarter.

A truly unique brand, odAOMO produces garments and accessories from eco-friendly materials in Kenya. The leather, hide, shell, snake and fish skin goods are constructed of food byproducts and found materials so no lives are harmed for fashion. The fine silks, cashmere blends and cottons used are sourced from an independent Kenyan textile distribution, run by two young Kenyan women. The African textiles are collected throughout the Continent. Each piece is handcrafted and produced in limited batches creating an exclusive and organically nuanced line.

Where some philanthropic entities choose to focus on charity, odAOMO and Dr. Omoro empower through opportunity. odAOMO employs a small team in Kenya with fair wages– Douglas, the label’s leather craftsman, and Valentine, the primary jeweler—that have a profound economic impact on their respective villages.

“I would like to bring to light this wealth in material and human resources, and show the world that wonderful things can come out of this continent and country. Wonderful, beautiful things, made with love, and by human hands.” –Dr. Sophia Aomo Omoro
Born and raised in the Greater New Orleans Region, Amy Trainor was introduced to high fashion by her interest in friend and medical colleague Sophie’s wardrobe and styling. When she discovered Dr. Omoro’s clothing were her own original designs and the breadth of her collection, she saw the potential and dedicated herself to planning the launch event that led to the creation of odAOMO. Amy has continued commitment and presently acts as Operations Manager for the brand. In her spare time, she works out, travels, spends quality time with her husband and three sons, and enjoys her home on the water.

Types Of Female Models

When most people think of female models they automatically think of supermodels Naomi Campbell, Gisele Bundchen, Kate Moss, Heidi Klum, or Tyra Banks. However, there are many other types of models whose names you wouldn’t know but who are making a terrific income. They’re working behind the scenes as fit or showroom models and as commercial models working with manufacturers, suppliers, pharmaceutical companies, airlines, automobile manufacturers, fitness companies, and much more.

Even if you can’t be the next supermodel you’ll probably fit into one of these categories of female models.

1. Fashion (Editorial) Model

Fashion models, or what the industry refers to as “editorial models” are the high fashion models that you see in fashion magazines such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Elle, and who work for top fashion designers Giorgio Armani, Prada, Marc Jacobs, Gucci, Valentino, and others.

Female editorial models are generally 5′ 9″ to 6′ 0″ tall and are very slim. A female editorial models’ measurements are usually – bust 33″, waist 23″, hips 33″.

Modeling agencies will always look at the “complete package” that the model presents when determining whether or not they can be editorial models, so don’t be discouraged if you don’t meet these stats exactly.

2. Runway/Catwalk Model

Female runway/catwalk models are a minimum of 5′ 9″ but 5′ 10″ – 5′ 11″ is even better. Runway models must have precise measurements so they are able to fit the clothes that designers are going to be showing to their clients. Their measurements are usually no greater than 34″ – 23″ – 34″.

Designers hire models to fit the clothes they have made for their collections, they don’t make the clothes to fit the model – well, not unless you’re a supermodel like Naomi Campbell or Coco Rocha.

3. Commercial Model

Commercial models can be any age, any size and any height. Hooray! Commercial models can do everything that isn’t normally associated with high-fashion, such as product ads (housewares, food products, travel industry, tech devices, and the list goes on).

How to Stay Young and Beautiful

Every woman desires to stay young and beautiful for a very long period of time, preferably – the whole life. There are many researches that were made in the industry of beauty and youth, so that scientists found some important “rules” that we should follow to stay attractive and beautiful for longer. They discovered that you mood, for example, has a great deal of influence on the way you look.

1. Don’t overeat, keep the same weight all the time.
One of my favourite actresses Christie Brinkley is the great example of woman who looks absolutely stunning and gorgeous, even though she is almost 60 now. It’s unbelievable! She shared one of the secrets of her beauty – maintain the same weight all the time.
Often people have a habit of eating 3 big meals a day, but when you desire to lose weight (or to stay thin), it’s better to appropriate right habits of eating – try to eat smaller portions, but more often than only 3 times a day, this way you will boost your metabolism and it will be a lot easier to maintain great figure. According to many scientific researches, the ideal way of eating is to eat about 5 or 6 times a day, but smaller portions, and when I say smaller, I mean it! The ideal portion size would be the one that enters into the palm of your hand. Another easy trick to avoid overeating is to drink one glass of water before or after you ate, depending on your preference. Water will fill in the space in your tummy and you will feel satisfied without overeating, and your body will stay very hydrated!

2. Always use sunscreen.
UV rays cause extremely big percentage of wrinkles and other signs of ageing. There are two types of sunscreen protection: physical and chemical-based SPFs with UVA and UVB protections. If your skin is sensitive, I would recommend to find sunscreen protection cream with natural minerals – zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. Pay special attention to protect your skin from sun damage when you go on holidays or if you live in a sunny country.

3) Exfoliate your skin regularly.
Exfoliation is one of the most important secrets of youthful appearance! It has many benefits: it’s the best way to keep your skin soft and glowing, it helps to keep your pores from clogging (keeps acne under control), helps with uneven skin tone, keeps lines and wrinkles in check…There are two types of exfoliators: chemical ones and physical ones. When you have sensitive skin – never use harsh or strong exfoliators because it can cause irritation and redness. Ask the specialist’s advise to find the best product that suits your skin type.

History of Masquerade Balls

Do Kenyans understand the value “important ” of masquerade ball! lets get down to the origin of masquerade ball

Everyone loves the idea of a good party. Attending a festivity that is reeking of music, dance, alcohol and costumes as you let your hair down and cut loose. This is what happens at a masquerade ball. Regardless of how formal, elite or how much money was spent on a lavish gala in past history, partying and having a good time meant that the occasion was going to get a little wild as people become uninhibited behind their mask and costumes history of masquerade ball in Kenya

Masquerade ball event

Masquerade: What is it?
If you have ever been invited to a masquerade ball; the first thing you will notice is the key objective to such a festive occasion… that of hiding one’s identity behind an elaborate costume and a masquerade facial mask.
Long ago, in the 15th century, a masquerade function was known as a carnival, and this kind of event or celebration took place at weddings and social affairs within medieval societies. The costume extravaganza consisted of parades and pageants for the elite of the medieval era, including the participation of members of the medieval court, who also dressed up in disguise as they partied.

Masquerades include lots of music and dancing. They are used for entertainment purposes as well as in celebrating rituals, such as the rites of passage and speaking to the dead as in the African tradition and cultural heritage. These big lavish parties always took place in the evening and the environment was that of gaiety, and the other things that made it so gay were the eating, drinking and gambling.
