Kenyan Actress Winnie Bwire Succumbs to Cancer

Nairobi, Kenya – Beloved Kenyan actress, designer, and baker Winnie Bwire, widely known for her role as “Dida” in the Swahili telenovela *Sultana*, passed away on September 5, 2024, after a prolonged battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was undergoing treatment in Turkey at the time of her death.

In an official statement, Bwire’s family expressed their deep sorrow, acknowledging the unwavering support received from friends, family, and the public during her treatment. The statement read: “It is with heavy hearts and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce Winfred Bwire Ndubi lost her battle with cancer on 5th September 2024, while undergoing treatment in Turkey. We thank you all for your overwhelming support, prayers, and generous giving during her treatment.”

Last month, Bwire shared a personal and emotional video on social media, updating her followers on her health status and pleading for further financial assistance. In the video, she chronicled her fight against metastatic breast cancer, candidly discussing the physical and emotional toll the disease had taken on her.

“For the past few months, I have been going through a really hard time in and out of hospital… I was doing very well until I developed a series of side effects from the drugs. There is a drug I was taking that has over 41 side effects. I consulted with my doctors, and they advised me to stop taking it and seek treatment in Turkey,” she shared. Bwire detailed the challenges she faced, expressing frustration over the escalating costs of healthcare and her need for external support.

Despite her valiant efforts, including a recent trip to Turkey for advanced treatment, her battle with cancer came to a heartbreaking end. Her fight was not only personal but also public, as she sought to raise awareness about cancer, its treatment challenges, and the emotional struggles it entails.

Winnie Bwire’s acting career spanned over a decade, beginning with her performances at the Little Theatre Club. She gained widespread recognition for her role in *Sultana*, where she portrayed “Dida,” captivating audiences with her talent and presence. Her contributions to the Kenyan entertainment industry extended beyond acting, as she was also known for her work in design and baking.

Her cancer journey, made public two years ago, showcased her resilience and determination to fight the disease. She was vocal about her optimism and hope for recovery, earning the admiration of many who viewed her as a warrior in the face of adversity.

Bwire’s last social media post, made just five days before her passing, was a heartfelt expression of gratitude to those who had supported her medical journey. “I am failing to caption this because I’m a mess. Not enough thank yous will ever suffice for the sacrifice, support, prayers, tears, time, and money you have accorded me. Dear Humans, Mubarikiwe sana,” she wrote.

Her death marks a profound loss for the Kenyan entertainment industry, and she will be remembered not only for her contributions to television but also for her courage in sharing her battle with cancer publicly. Fans, colleagues, and well-wishers have taken to social media to mourn her passing, celebrating her legacy and the light she brought to the world despite her personal struggles.

Details of her funeral arrangements and further tributes will be announced by her family in due course.

Kenyan socialite, Huddah Monroe is making money moves back in the US  and this time, it’s all in the name of high fashion as one of L.A.’s most stylish global transplants.

The C.E.O of the famous Huddah Cosmetics, is gracing the Harper’s Bazaar’s limited edition September 2019 issue, posing in a stunning gown to look like the ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ movie women.

The cover shot captures Huddah in a faux fur purple shiny gown posing on a bike with a basket of flowers. Also living in the here and now is Huddah Monroe, a beauty entrepreneur who shot to fame when she appeared on Big Brother Africa in 2013. Although her home base is Nairobi, she seems to exist in perpetual motion. Whether Abu Dhabi or Monaco or Atlanta or Shanghai, she’s never in the same place for long. But these days, L.A.

(where next year she plans to open a Huddah Cosmetics U.S. flagship stocking her popular liquid lipsticks and eye shadow palettes for darker skin tones) is like a second home to her. During the shoot, as crowds of onlookers gawk, she looks perfectly at ease bicycling along the beach with a flower-filled Birkin in a sequined Michael Kors Collection dress that shimmers in vivid violet hues.

With 1.7 million Instagram followers and her face plastered all over billboards, Huddah, 27, is one of Kenya’s most talked-about personalities. She keeps a compound in Runda Estate, Nairobi’s poshest neighborhood, and has spent the past several months in one of downtown L.A.’s glittering new high-rises, where a posse of basketball stars forms her chosen family.

It doesn’t hurt that she’s as photogenic as Iman, but Huddah’s success is still a remarkable achievement for a girl born and raised in the slums of Nairobi.

“I grew up in a very nice environment,” Huddah deadpans, her deep smoky accent sounding like a cross between Lauren Bacall and Karl Lagerfeld. “

The only thing we had was poverty. The only thing we didn’t have was food. I knew from a young age that I wanted to be an independent woman, and I saw an opportunity to start my own business and help other women feel beautiful.”

When we meet later for a drink, she is sheathed in a figure-hugging champagne- colored cocktail dress that I mistake for Alexandre Vauthier. “This is Forever 21,” she announces breezily. “I love pairing fast fashion with beautiful accessories.” Huddah loves local hot spots like Nobu Malibu and the Lone Wolf Cigar Lounge (she has her own line of flavored cigars—the band reads hbc, for Huddah the Boss Chick). “L.A. has become so international and so welcoming,” she says. “It gives me the chance to dress up. Every day is like going to an awards show.”

Halima Aden becomes first model to wear hijab and burkini in Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue

Boundary-breaking Muslim supermodel Halima Aden has made history once again by becoming the first model to wear a hijab and burkini in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.

In 2016, Aden became the first contestant in Miss Minnesota USA to wear a hijab and burkini, ultimately reaching the pageant’s semi-finals.

“There are so many Muslim women that feel like they don’t fit society’s standard of beauty,” she told CNN at the time. “I just wanted to tell them it’s OK to be different, being different is beautiful, too.”

She shared a similar sentiment at her Sports Illustrated shoot. “Growing up in the United States, I never really felt represented because I never could flip through a magazine and see a girl who was wearing a hijab,” she said in a behind-the-scenes video. “Don’t be afraid to be the first.”

Aden, who is Somali-American, grew up in Kenya’s Kakuma refugee camp, before moving with her family to the US at the age of seven.

Her Sports Illustrated shoot, photographed by Yu Tsai, took place at Kenya’s Watamu Beach.

“I keep thinking (back) to six-year-old me who, in this same country, was in a refugee camp,” Aden told the magazine. “So to grow up to live the American dream [and] to come back to Kenya and shoot for SI in the most beautiful parts of Kenya — I don’t think that’s a story that anybody could make up.”

Again, this isn’t the first time Aden has made history — or even the first time this year. In March, she was one of three black hijabi models featured on the cover of Vogue Arabia — the magazine’s first group hijabi cover — alongside Ikram Abdi Omar and Amina Adan.

In April 2018, she broke new ground in British Vogue, as the first hijabi woman on the cover.

“I empower women by staying true to myself and also encouraging them to go out and not be scared to be the first,” Aden told CNN on International Women’s Day in March. “If you don’t see yourself represented in any given field, take it upon yourself to be the one.”

Her big break came when she landed the Changing times role because the directors were looking for a Swahili girl and Brenda’s was perfect for the role.

Brenda an Juliani have been in a romantic relationship but they like to keep it private that makes people speculate about their seperation.During ‘Lets Talk’ Brenda told her co host how she made a move on Juliani.

“I actually met J on social media,I slide in his DM. You might not know this about me, but I love rap, hip hop and all that and I was a big, huge fan of his and I used to do short braids when I knew he was going to perform so that I can shake my head. So when I got to the industry I was like, maybe now I can get to meet this icon, this person that I really enjoyed his music. So I was like, hey I like your music and what not and the rest is history.”

Brenda has a baby with her boyfriend Juliani whose name is Amor. Benda keeps her baby away from the public dormain. Brenda said that the reason she keeps her baby from the public is in case she grows up to be a private person and wants a quiet life away from the publicity of her famous parents.

Roshanara Ebrahim was crowned Miss World Kenya in 2016, but has been stripped of her title following a series of controversies. She was replaced by Evelyn Njambi the at that time reigning ‘Miss Kiambu’.

After losing her crown, Roshanara was embroiled in a lawsuit after her ex-boyfriend Frank Zahlten leaked her nude photos online, culminating in her being ‘dethroned’ of the Miss Kenya title. Following this, Roshanara sued her ex-boyfriend and the Miss Kenya organizer Ashleys Kenya.

A high court ruling delivered on December 7, 2016, ruled in favour of Roshanara, concluding that non consensual circulation of intimate images was a gross human rights issue, and that it breached the right to one’s privacy under Article 31 (c) of Kenya’s Constitution.

The third respondent, Frank Zahlten  Roshanara’s ex-boyfriend, was required to pay the petitioner Miss Kenya $10,000 in damages, for breach of her right to privacy.

After the Standard Group announced her employment on one of their shows, Roshanara was a co-host alongside Sara Ndanu, who has been holding down the fort since its inception. An announcement was made on October 22, 2016, that she will be joining The Skin Therapy Show on KTN Home
